It might happen slowly over time or maybe swift and unexpected. Either way most of us usually are not prepared when an elderly loved one begins to decline or experiences a health crisis that causes them to depend on others.
Have you suddenly found yourself helping someone with bathing, dressing, and meals? Are you coordinating doctors appointments, and making routine trips to the pharmacy to manage multiple medications. If so, you have just fallen into the role of a family caregiver.
A caregiver is someone who provides any type of physical and/or emotional care for an ill or disabled loved one at home. If this is you it is a huge responsibility. Your life's routine will change, you may become overwhelmed. It's sometimes difficult to balance care giving, work, and maybe your own kids and spouse but remember there are resources out there that can help.
Just know that it takes a very special person with a big heart to be a caregiver and you are a ROCK STAR!!!
