May 6th through 12th is National Nurse's week! While living in such an unprecedented time during this pandemic Nurse's no doubt will be celebrated by their employer's all over the nation.

Also with nursing being such a demanding, high stressed occupation, it can be challenging to manage the responsibilities it takes to provide quality care and still have the personal bed side manner needed when caring for patients. Nurses perform physical exams, take medical histories and make critical decisions. They promote health, educate and counsel. They administer medications, perform procedures and coordinate care in collaboration with many other health care professionals.

So it is so well deserved to be applauded for the dedication to the profession!

But I think the most meaningful recognition comes actually from those that they care for. Whether it be in the hospital, a rehab facility, out patient center or at home, there is nothing better than the thank you received from someone who needed not only the professional skill provided, but that something extra that helped them feel better. Maybe just because they took a few minutes to listen to a story, give a reassuring touch, or a comforting smile,

What's funny is that the ones that truly are the most grateful sometimes never really get the opportunity to share any appreciation because they simply are not well and can't wait to get home. And that's okay, because just knowing that when you go to work you're making a difference in someone's life, is gratifying enough.

So, if you happen to run into or maybe personally know a nurse, take a second and show some love!

Happy Nurse's Week to you all and thank you for your service!
